Welcome Acoustic Music Lovers,

Singing Oak in collaboration with
Unity Concerts Presents

David Roth and Songwriters in the Round

Friday, March 7, 2025 at 7:30 PM
at Unity on Cape Cod

Singing Oak Concerts is thrilled to announce we're continuing our collaboration with our friends at Unity on Cape Cod in Hyannis, to bring you a fabulous line-up of concerts this summer.

We're launching the series with our fourth annual, spectacular “Songwriters in the Round” concert which features organizer David Roth, with Susan Cattaneo, Sloan Wainwright, and Glen Roethel! This will be an intimate in-the-round concert. Anything can happen as these seasoned, nationally touring artists take turns in a one-of-a-kind musical conversation.

CCSR director, David Roth started the annual Cape Cod Songwriting Retreats in 2014 in order to create a safe and supportive environment for people in all walks of life and all levels of experience to reconnect with their creativity. His own music strikes many chords, hearts, and minds with unique songs, offbeat observations, moving stories, sense of the hilarious, and powerful singing and subject matter. As singer, songwriter, recording artist, keynote speaker, workshop leader, and instructor, David has earned top honors at premier songwriter competitions – Kerrville (TX) and Falcon Ridge (NY) – and taken his music, experience, and expertise to a wide variety of venues in this and other countries full-time for three decades.

Defying standard categorization, singer/songwriter Sloan Wainwright, consistently demonstrates her easy command of a variety of American musical styles — pop, folk, jazz and blues — held together by the melodious tone of her rich contralto, with the end result being a unique and soulful hybrid. Her family tree (brother and folk-music luminary Loudon Wainwright, nephew Rufus Wainwright, nieces Martha Wainwright and Lucy Wainwright Roche) reads like a who’s who of contemporary folk music. Sloan’s incredible gift is not only her unique songwriting ability but also her dramatically voiced rendition of original songs.

Sloan’s open spirit and first-hand experience is welcome –year after year– in the musical classrooms of such prestigious song camps as Richard Thompson’s Frets and Refrains, The Swannanoa Gathering, SummerSongs, WUMB Radio’s Summer Acoustic Music Week (SAMW), Winter Acoustic Music Weekend (WAMW), Moab Folk Camp, Cape Cod Songwriting Retreat and emPower Music & Arts Totally Cool Song School.

In 2013 alone Glen Roethel received honors for three songs in the 30th Mid-Atlantic Song Contest (MASC), Songwriters’ Association of Washington, DC. In 2014 he was a double Posi Award Nominee for his songs “Beautiful Now” and “Family,” both included in his newest CD, Unfolding.  Unfolding, “Together” was nominated for a Posi Award in 2015. His new single, “All Is Well,” (a co-write with Sue Riley and Richard Mekdeci) from his 2018 release, Go Out And Shine (emPower Music & Arts), was just nominated in the same category for the 14th annual Posi Awards in 2019. In 2020, Glen and his trio-mates/co-writers, Judy Kass and Amy Soucy were awarded Gold in the Open Category of the 36th Mid Atlantic Song Contest for their song “Too Much Crying” and in 2021, Us! received a Posi Award for their Green Earth category song, “We’ll Get There,” and UWWM appreciated Glen’s support of the New Thought music movement with a Grace Note Award.

Glen’s songs are featured in Unity songbooks; two co-writes are on the new More Than A Season holiday CD from emPower Music & Arts. He tours the country in Posi-Palooza concerts and holiday shows, and many more – delighting audiences with thoughtful songwriting, soaring vocals, infectious energy and accomplished acoustic (and electric) guitar playing – for more than 45 years.

Glen Roethel applies his creative energies to songwriting as well. His songs grace TV and syndicated radio shows. Glen formed and led a 100-person international choir – accompanied by The Buddha Babies, his Afro-Cuban Peruvian Japanese American band – playing and singing his own songs for more than 700 fans in New York City. Howard Stern used his song “Smokin’ My Head” (1994) for walk-in music, and cable TV’s Inside The NFL used his dramatic instrumental guitar music to set an eerie mood for slow-motion dramatic effect. His song “Namaste'” was featured in a multi-media exhibit at the Presidential Museum in Texas as part of a multi-media exhibit by Arlene Atherton titled Children Speak: Tsunami.
